Akylbek Zhaparov discussed the intensification of bilateral cooperation with the UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron
During his working trip to London, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Zhaparov, met with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs David Cameron.
The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Zhaparov, expressed gratitude to the British authorities for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov.
He highlighted that the Kyrgyz Republic highly values the United Kingdom's participation in projects related to the socio-economic development of the country, strengthening its human capital, and supporting small and medium-sized businesses.
During the meeting, Akylbek Zhaparov shared that Kyrgyzstan's GDP has nearly doubled over the last 3 years. The country's budget has tripled due to political stability, conscientious governance, improved administration, anti-corruption efforts, and economic reforms.
As part of the negotiations, the parties discussed the expansion of trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized the importance of actively continuing collaborative efforts to establish business contacts between British importers and Kyrgyz exporters, pointing out that Kyrgyzstan is actively working to attract foreign investors.
“In our view, investors may be attracted by Kyrgyzstan's advantageous location on the logistics route between China and mainland Europe, its hydropower potential, recreational resources for tourism, as well as its mineral resource base for gold and certain valuable and rare natural resources. Kyrgyzstan has established a favorable investment climate with clear guarantees, as stipulated in the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic," he stated.
The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers continued, emphasizing that the Kyrgyz side highly values the contribution of the British Government to the organized recruitment of Kyrgyz citizens for the seasonal work program in the United Kingdom.
"I am pleased to mention that the quota for seasonal workers from Kyrgyzstan has reached 8,000 people this year. We hope that the number of seasonal workers will continue to grow, considering the positive mutually beneficial experience," he said.
In this regard, the UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron welcomed the contribution of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic during the period of seasonal work.
Furthermore, Akylbek Zhaparov mentioned that there is an Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the United Kingdom dated December 8, 1994. Under the aforementioned agreement, British airlines operated regular flights between London and Bishkek in various years, but they ceased since 2013.
"At the same time, the number of our citizens working, studying, and pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom has been growing, along with an increasing flow of tourists both to and from Kyrgyzstan in recent years. This could have a positive impact on the growth of passenger traffic. Given these circumstances, we request assistance in discussing, at the government level, the resumption of regular air communication between our countries," he stated.
The UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron expressed that the British authorities are interested in enhancing bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that the implementation of previously reached agreements and new agreements between the two countries will be at a high level.
